Yesterday the fine folks at Warner Brothers Interactive and Traveler's Tales games released the latest in their Lego series, Lego Marvel Avengers.

Brickmaster Robeyone and Padawan Aaron's impressions and score
I have been a huge fan of the Lego games from Traveler's Tales for a while now. You can check my Gamerscore (Gamertag: Robeyone) and see quite a few 1000/1000 completed Lego titles under my belt. However I have noticed a trend with these titles and Lego Marvel Avengers appears to suffer the same issue. These games are getting complicated, and it makes it hard to play with your kids.
Traveler's Tale Lego games have always touted the awesome couch co-op fun that kids and adults can share while playing in these awesome Lego Universe versions of our favorite movie/comic book franchises. I was excited to sit down with Padawan AJ and experience this together with him for the first time.
It started out great, Aaron was playing Hawkeye while I was tearing it up with Black Widow. We were having fun, but at too many points did I have to ask for the controller from my son and do the little scripted event that was necessary for us to progress in the level. In fact there was a section in the first level where it was Captain America (Aaron) and Thor (me) where I didn't even know what we were supposed to do, and had to spend a good ten minutes trying to figure it out. It's all fun and games until you have a frustrated six year old boy.
That being said, the production value for these games only continues to increase, and Lego Marvel Avengers is no exception. Using excerpts of voices from the movie, all of the Lego characters are fully voiced with their corresponding actor. There are a few points where a different voice actor is used to when the dialog from the movie wouldn't suffice, but it was limited. Having this fully voiced in addition to the charm these Lego characters give off is a nice touch.
Lego Marvel Avengers is massive, with collectibles and gameplay that could last in the 50 to 60 hour range. There is so much to collect in this game, and doing so has always been addicting. From Characters (in this version there are a ton!), mini-kits, gold bricks, and the always charming Stan Lee, there is always something to go back and replay in the levels included in Lego Marvel Avengers.
Lego Marvel Avengers is a great addition to the already copious number of Travelers Tale's Lego games. It is a nice polished package with a lot of variable gameplay and some cool, cute little gimmicks. Co-op and difficulty aside, Aaron is ready to play again, and so am I. So we can give this a solid Lego Rebel's recommendation. However, given the difficult curve, we gotta rate this as just Great! (four out of five) on our five point scale.
